Last
week I received a court summons informing me that the Thai regime wants
to shut down my Facebook page. Now they have announced 8 pages they
want to block. 1/4
But it is now clear that digital economy minister is not attempting to persuade Facebook to geoblock the pages — which is the only way to achieve it — and is instead ordering Thai ISPs to do the blocking bangkokpost.com/thailand/gener 2/4
But Thai ISPs can’t do it, Facebook uses https, so Thai ISPs can either block all of Facebook or none of it. They can’t selectively block pages. So it looks like this whole thing is just a publicity stunt by Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn that will achieve nothing 3/4
Unless they have some other plan, my Facebook will continue to be accessible in Thailand, and it’s an embarrassment that the country’s digital economy minister doesn’t even know how the internet works. 4/4
