Russian invasion :Ukraine applies for membership in NATO

Ukraine quickly applies for membership in NATO. 

This is stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky on Telegram. 

President Zelenskyy says that the application goes hand in hand with "our values to protect our society".   

- We are taking the decisive step of signing Ukraine's application for urgent accession to NATO.  

According to him, Ukraine, "de facto", is already part of the alliance. 

- We trust each other, we help each other and protect each other. 

The announcement comes only shortly after Russia and Vladimir Putin annexed four occupied regions of Ukraine.
