One dead after explosion at military base in Iraq
On the night of Saturday, a large explosion occurred at a military base in Iraq, several news agencies report. One person is said to have died and eight injured, according to a statement from the military base.
The head of the military base states that the explosion was preceded by an attack. At the same time, the Iraqi military says that an investigation must be launched and that there were neither drones nor fighter jets in the air at the time of the explosion.
The military base in question is located near the city of Iskandariya, about three miles south of Baghdad. The base includes pro-Iranian military groups that, until February, participated in drone and rocket attacks against US forces in Iraq, writes Reuters.
Shortly after the explosion, US Central Command wrote on X that the US has not carried out any airstrikes against Iraq today.
