Ecuador's President Daniel Noboa has declared a new state of emergency in the country, writes Reuters. The exemption permit must be valid for 60 days.
The background is the ongoing energy crisis in the country which, among other things, has led to extensive and sometimes long-lasting power outages in the country.
Earlier this week, the president imposed a two-day mandatory holiday due to the power shortage. All public and private activities in the capital Quito were also canceled as a means of rationing electricity. The reason for the electricity shortage is drought.
In mid-January, Noboa declared a state of emergency due to the wave of violence prevailing in the country.

Third mayor in a short time murdered in Ecuador
The mayor of the mining town of Portovelo in Ecuador, Jorge Maldonado, has been shot dead, writes AFP. It is the second time in just a few days and the third time in a month that a mayor in the country has been murdered.
According to Ecuadorian police, Maldonado was attacked by two men on a motorcycle. Just two days earlier, the mayor of the city, Camilo Ponce Enríquez, was shot dead, and last month, 27-year-old Brigitte García, the mayor of San Vicente, was found shot to death in a car.
AFP explains the unrest with the recent drought which has led to widespread electricity shortages.
Tomorrow, Ecuadorians will vote on tougher measures against organized crime.
