Julian Assange has landed on American soil
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has landed in Saipan on the American island group of the Marianas in the Pacific Ocean, AP reports.
"Almost free!" writes WikiLeaks on X.
At 1 a.m. Swedish time, he will be brought before a court, where, according to an agreement with the US Department of Justice, he will plead guilty to one count of espionage.
In exchange, the prosecution will ask for a prison sentence of five years and two months, which will be offset against the time he has already spent in a British prison. When the judge signs the agreement, Assange is officially free.
The hearing is being held in the Marianas because Assange requested that it not be held on the US mainland.

Activists entered Rishi Sunak's private home
Four men have been arrested on suspicion of trespassing at British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's private residence in Yorkshire, The Telegraph reports.
The men belong to the Youth Demand action group, which demands an end to arms exports to Israel and dependence on fossil fuels.
In a video the group has published on X, one of the protesters is seen defecating in a pond that Sunak has near the residence. The man in the video has a shirt with the message "Eat shit Rishi".
According to the group, a dummy was used, and no one pooped in the pond.
The police state that they were on the scene about a minute after the men were seen at the residence. The men will appear in court later this week.
