  • There were four Vietnamese and two Americans of Vietnamese origin.
  • The police are now looking for a seventh person in the group, a preliminary investigation into murder has been launched.

It was a cleaning lady at the luxury hotel Grand Hyatt Erawan in central Bangkok who made the macabre discovery.

Six people, four Vietnamese and two Americans of Vietnamese origin, lay dead in a room.

Initially, it was reported that shots had been fired, but this turned out to be incorrect information.

The police are looking for a seventh person

The dead, three women and three men, are said to have had no external injuries. There were no signs of violence or of any struggle in the room - which was locked from the inside.

Police estimated that the six people had been dead for about 24 hours when they were found.

The group lived in several different rooms, on different floors, in the luxury hotel. They should also have checked in on different occasions, but it is suspected that they knew each other from before.

The investigators state that they are currently looking for a seventh person who was also included in a booking.

However, it is still unclear whether the seventh person was at the hotel. This was stated by Thiti Sangsawang, police chief in Bangkok, at a press conference, according to the Associated Press news agency.

The police have now started a preliminary investigation into murder.

Food and drinks from room service

In the room where the dead were found, there was also food that had been ordered via room service. The food was almost untouched.

However, drinks had been consumed, according to police chief Thiti Sangsawang, who could not comment further.

Photos from the scene also show several stainless steel thermoses on the table.

According to CNN, a mysterious white powder was also found in the room.

The people must have packed their luggage for the journey home, according to local media. Their bags were packed in the suite.

The bodies will now be autopsied.

Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin visited the hotel, but did not attend an on-site interview, according to AP.
