Israeli military police arrest soldiers - suspected of abusing prisoners

Israeli military police have arrested nine soldiers suspected of abusing a Palestinian prisoner at the Sde Teiman prison. This is reported by Haaretz.

According to information to the newspaper, the prisoner must have been taken to hospital with serious injuries. Images circulating on social media appear to show the military police being confronted by soldiers on site protesting the arrests.

Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir is also furious.

- The spectacle of military police officers going and arresting our heroes at Sde Teiman prison is nothing short of shameful, he says.

Flights to Beirut are grounded after the deadly attack

A number of airlines are stopping all flights to and from Beirut for the next 24 hours, reports Reuters. The background is the increased tensions between Israel and Lebanon, after the deadly attack in the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights last Saturday that killed at least twelve children and young people.

The attack has fueled fears of a full-scale war in the region. Meanwhile, four senior Israeli sources told Reuters that Israel's response to the attack will be aimed at hurting Hezbollah - without being a declaration of war.

- It would not be in our interest, says a diplomatic source to the news agency.

Both the United States and Israel have singled out Hezbollah as responsible for the attack, something the militia group denies.
