Secret service chief Kimberly Cheatle is currently being grilled by Congress after the assassination attempt on Donald Trump.

During the interrogation, new details have emerged.

- The threat was unclear at the time and we did not know he was armed, she says of the 20-year-old who opened fire.

Kimberly Cheatle, head of the Secret service, is being asked today about the security around Donald Trump on the day he was the victim of an assassination attempt.

Many members of the committee questioning Cheatle have been clear that they want her to resign.

She herself has no plans for it, but admits that she did not do her job on the day in question.

- The assassination attempt on Donald Trump is our biggest failure in several decades, she says in her opening speech.

Spoke to the sniper who killed Crooks

When asked why they didn't stop Thomas Matthew Crooks when he was seen with a range finder next to the roof, Cheatle says:

- The threat was unclear at the time and we did not know that he was armed.

- If we knew he was armed, Trump would not have been allowed to take the stage.

Kimberly Cheatle states that she spoke with both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris after the assassination attempt on Trump.

She also reportedly spoke with the sniper who killed 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, but would not reveal any details of that conversation.

She was also asked whether Crooks had flown a drone over the area before the assassination attempt, but said she could not comment on that.
