Joe Biden seemed to lose the thread during his 4th of July address to veterans at the White House.

- I probably shouldn't even say that, he said before changing the direction of his speech.

Then he appeared on a larger stage and gave a shorter speech - which began: "Ho ho ho, happy freedom day!"

The White House celebrates July 4 – American Independence Day. Shortly after midnight, Biden addressed American veterans.

The 81-year-old president spoke about his visit to Normandy in June, which he previously blamed for his weak ferformance in the debate against Donald Trump.

- By the way, I was at that First World War cemetery in France. And, the one that my colleague, the former president, didn't want to go and be up there.

Then he fell silent, seeming to search for the words, before continuing:

- I probably shouldn't even say that.

"Anyway"

Then the speech picked up again, when Biden referred to his own experiences:

- By the way, I've been all over the world, with... I've been in and out of combat, anyway, you guys are incredible.

After that, he left the stage to great applause - but then allegedly took the microphone again and added 30 seconds, reports the New York Post.

- One last thing, and I used to think when I was a senator, there were always traffic jams on the highways. There are no more traffic jams. We are going on the highway, there is no traffic, he said according to the newspaper.

However, the White House seems to have cut out the last part of the Youtube replay.

"Ho, ho, ho"

At a quarter past two, around two hours later, they broadcast live on You Tube when Biden spoke to a larger crowd.

- Ho, ho, ho, happy freedom day! We must do as our founding fathers did – show the world that we are a country of dignity, honor and devotion to one another, he began the speech.

Immediately afterwards, he concluded the speech:

- No, I'm serious.

- Listen, everything is about democracy, everything is about freedom. It's all about who we are. We are the United States, and there is nothing like it in the whole world. Happy 4th of July. Enjoy the fireworks, god love you all. Thanks thanks thanks.

Then he pointed to the crowd, who started chanting "Four more years!" before Bruce Springsteen's "Born In The USA" played for around two seconds and the broadcast went out.

Finally, the White House broadcast pictures of the spectacular fireworks display. Then Biden himself stood enjoying himself on a balcony, together with his wife and Vice President Kamala Harris.
