Athens faces record heat with more trees: "Survival"
Adapting Greek cities to the climate is not a matter of lifestyle but of survival. This is what the mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, told The Guardian.
In the middle of a summer with record high temperatures, measures such as more trees on the streets, water stations and cooling centers are directly crucial, he believes.
- A green district can experience a temperature drop of five percent and that makes a big difference during a heat wave.

Researchers: Warmest June in Greece since the 60s
Greece recorded the warmest June since 1960, the head of the Athens National Observatory, Kostas Lagouvardos, told AFP:
- June 2024 was characterized by long periods of high temperatures which for several days exceeded the normal seasonal temperatures throughout the country.
A heat wave has pushed the temperature in southeastern Europe well above average, data from the EU's climate service Copernucus show. In Athens, the warmest month of June was measured since the measurements began just over 160 years ago.
