Nancy Pelosi backs Harris: "Full confidence she can lead us to victory"
The very heavy democrat Nancy Pelosi, the former speaker of the United States, supports Kamala Harris as a presidential candidate. In a statement, she gives Harris her "enthusiastic support."
"Kamala Harris is brilliantly astute and I have every confidence that she can lead us to victory in November," she writes in the statement.
"I am enormously proud and look at our country's future with unlimited optimism," she continues.
Pelosi is one of the heaviest names to have backed Harris so far. No other Democrat has yet challenged Harris for the presidency.

Jeffries and Schumer to meet with Harris - expected to give support
Democratic congressional leaders Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries will soon have a meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris, Reuters reports.
Several sources tell CNN that the two leaders are expected to give their support to letting Harris become the party's presidential candidate "shortly".
Schumer and Jeffries are two of the most important names for Harris to bring on board. In the past, heavy names such as Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi and a number of governors and senators have expressed their support for her.

Was singled out as a potential challenger to Harris - not entering the fight
Few names have been pointed out as potential challengers to Kamala Harris for the Democratic presidential nomination. But now two of the hottest names, West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, have announced that they do not want to challenge Harris.
- I will not be a presidential candidate, but I want to see a solid process to choose who will be it, says Manchin to CBS Morning.
He proposes a kind of "mini-primary election".
- Then we will see who is the strongest candidate, whether it is Kamala or someone else.
A number of heavy-hitting Democrats have already shown their support for Harris. Manchin believes that she stands "far too far to the left".
Gretchen Whitmer writes on X that Kamala Harris has her "full support"
“We cannot let Donald Trump get close to the White House again. Here we go".

Joe Biden to Chuck Schumer last Saturday: "I need a week"
Last Saturday, Democratic Senate Leader Chuck Schumer traveled to Biden's private home in Delaware for a one-on-one meeting with Biden. Schumer has only described it with one word: "Good".
A source gave NBC News more details about the meeting, which was described as a turning point in Biden's decision to withdraw from the race. Schumer reportedly told Biden that he was in Delaware out of "love and respect." Next, Schumer said Biden needed to think about three things: How the world will look back on his accomplishments, the future of the country and how his decisions affect Congress.
- I don't expect you to make a decision when you leave the room, but I hope you think about what I've said, Schumer is said to have said.
According to the source, Biden replied: “I need a week.”
On Sunday, a little over a week after the meeting with Schumer, Biden announced that he is withdrawing from the presidential race.

Harris announced overnight Monday that she intends to do "everything she can" to win the election.

Secret service on the shots at Trump: We failed
As the hearing of Secret Service Chairman Kimberly Cheatle began in Congress, she stated that the agency failed to protect Donald Trump during the July 13 assassination attempt on him. This is reported by several media.
- It was our biggest mistake in several decades, she says and adds that she takes "full responsibility".
The agency, whose primary mission is to protect the nation's current and former presidents, is cooperating fully with the FBI, Congress and other outside investigators, Cheatle said.
- We need to find out what happened and I will move mountains to make sure that something like this never happens again.
