Sources: The EU skips Orbán's meeting - organizes its own
The EU's foreign ministers are expected to boycott an EU meeting that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has organized in Budapest on August 28-29, writes Politico. EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell will call another meeting of the Union's foreign ministers - the same weekend as Orbán's. This is stated by three sources within the EU for the newspaper.
The decision comes after the Hungarian Prime Minister's criticized visits to Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, which were not coordinated with other countries. Among other things, the meetings received criticism from Sweden's Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M).
The decision to boycott Orbán's meeting is a way for EU foreign ministers to "send a clear signal that Hungary does not speak for the EU," according to one of Politico's sources.
