Orbán: EU should resume dialogue with Russia

Viktor Orbán calls on the EU to resume dialogue with Russia. This is reported by the Financial Times, which has read a letter that the Hungarian Prime Minister sent to the other EU leaders.

In the letter, he also writes that he wants to see the EU start negotiations with China to find a way to peace in Ukraine. Orbán's calls come after he visited Russian President Vladimir Putin and China's Xi Jinping, trips that drew heavy criticism from several EU leaders.

Viktor Orbán claims that "the intensity of the military conflict will radically escalate in the near future", according to the FT.

Russia: Need to understand what is meant by peace meeting

Russia needs to understand what "peace meeting" means before they can accept an invitation to participate. This is according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, according to AFP.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has opened a follow-up peace meeting after the first held in Switzerland in June. At a press conference where he presented the plans, Zelenskyy said he thinks representatives from Russia should attend. But the attitude from Russia is wait-and-see.

- The first peace meeting was not a peace meeting. So it is perhaps necessary to first understand what he means, says Peskov according to TT.
