The shots against Trump

Threatening message days before the crime: "Will be my premiere"

Days before the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks wrote a threatening message on the gaming platform Steam. The Secret Service and the FBI suspect it, according to Fox News and ABC's information.

"July 13 will be my premiere, see how it develops," reads the message.

In the 20-year-old's phone, investigators have also discovered Internet searches for both Trump and President Joe Biden, according to ABC's sources. He looked up the date of Trump's speech in Pennsylvania and Googled when the Democratic convention in Chicago is taking place.

But the motive is largely a mystery. No strong political, ideological or religious motives have been detected.

John Cohen, former director of intelligence at the Department of Homeland Security and now an ABC contributor, says Crooks appears to have been an unhappy young man who turned to violence as a last resort. The picture that emerges points to a combination of mental illness, ideology and general discontent, according to Cohen.

- The same combination found in almost every school and mass shooting.

New Republican fashion: A bandaged right ear

Covering the right ear with a bandage has become the hottest trend at the Republican convention in Wisconsin, several media outlets write. This since Donald Trump stepped into the convention with a bandaged ear after the weekend's assassination attempt.

In The Guardian's video feature, several voters state that the mood is spreading.

- We want to show our solidarity and let him know: President Trump, you are not alone! We love you and we stand behind you, says participant Ray Michaels.

According to the Washington Post, it was another Republican, Joe Negley of Arizona, who started the trend.

- The whole world will be wearing these pretty soon, says Negley to CBS.

Tonight, the convention ends with a speech from Trump, in which he formally accepts the candidacy.

The Secret Service discovered the Trump shooter on the roof - 20 minutes before the shots were fired

The Secret Service spotted Trump shooter Thomas Matthews Crooks on the roof 20 minutes before he opened fire. This is reported by ABC News, citing sources with access to information.

The head of the FBI and the head of the Secret service gave a status update to US politicians yesterday about the timeline of the shooting.

It then emerged that already an hour before the crime, at 17:10 local time, Crooks was identified as a suspect. At 17.30 Crooks was seen with a range finder.

5.52pm – 20 minutes before the shots were fired – Crooks was spotted on the roof. At 18.02 Donald Trump went on stage and at 18.12 Crooks started his shooting.

Thomas Matthew Crooks is said to have also searched for photos of both President Biden and Trump as well as the dates of the meeting in Butler and the Democratic Convention in Chicago.
