The change of power in Great Britain
Labor government sparks hope for four-day week
The previous Conservative British government was critical of the idea of a four-day week. But now proponents of such an arrangement hope that the Labor government will open up new possibilities, writes The Guardian.
The movement "4 Day Week Campaign" is preparing a new pilot project where the concept will be tested. The result will be presented to the government in the summer of 2025.
The manager of the project, Joe Ryle, believes it will lead to improved productivity and reduced absenteeism among employees.
- With a new Labor government, change is in the air and we hope that employers embrace the change by signing up for our project, he says.

The violence in Haiti
New leader appeals for support: "No time for Haiti fatigue"
As the new Prime Minister of Haiti, gynecologist and former UN employee Garry Conille faces a difficult challenge. The country lacks both a functioning parliament and a president, and gang violence has led to great destruction and disorder.
- We have 40 police stations that have been destroyed. We have to get ready to fix them, he says in an interview with the New York Times.
So far, Conille has attended funerals for slain police and sacked the top police chief, who he says has failed to push back the gangs. Going forward, he wants to take back territory from the gangs, reopen closed schools and hospitals and build new roads. But then he needs financial support from the outside world.
- There is no time for Haiti fatigue, he says.
