Ukrainian attack on the Crimean Bridge – the operation was planned for several months
Ukrainian
security services have carried out an attack on the Russian Crimean
Bridge, reports Kyiv Independent. During the special operation, which
has been planned for several months, they have blown up the supports of
the bridge under the water surface.
The bridge had been mined
with 1,100 kilograms of dynamite and just before 05:00, local time, in
the morning the first charge detonated. The bridge is said to have been
seriously damaged in the attack. The security service states that no
civilians were injured.
Russia's Defense Ministry stated during the night that they had shot down three drones over the Crimean peninsula.
This
is the third time Ukraine has carried out attacks on the bridge,
previous operations took place in October 2022 and in July 2023. The
bridge was built by Russia and connects the Crimean peninsula to the
Russian mainland, it is an important transport route and has great
symbolic value for the Kremlin, writes Kyiv Independent.
After the attack – traffic on the Crimean Bridge is closed
Russia
is closing all traffic on the Crimean Bridge, Reuters reports, citing
Russian authorities. The announcement comes after Ukrainian security
forces carried out a large-scale attack on the bridge.
The
security service had mined the bridge's supports with 1,100 kilograms of
dynamite. The first detonation took place at 04:44, local time, on
Tuesday morning. Russian authorities, who regularly provide status
updates on the bridge, also stated that the bridge was out of service
between 04:00 and 07:00, but no reason was given for the interruption,
writes Reuters.
