Britain to buy fighter jets from US – for nuclear weapons
Great Britain wants to buy American fighter jets that can fire nuclear weapons, reports the Sunday Times.
The government is now in “highly sensitive” talks about buying F-35 aircraft. It would mean the biggest development for the country’s deterrence since the Cold War, sources say. Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to present the proposal tomorrow.
Defence Secretary John Healey does not want to comment on the information but says that Britain must adapt to “a new era of threats”.
– The world is definitely becoming more dangerous. The nuclear threat is growing. For the first time since the Cold War there is a growing risk of conflict between states.
