Risk of Russian advantage as weapons are used up in the Iran war

The Iran war risks reducing the supply of missiles for the US Patriot air defense system that Ukraine has a great need for, reports Politico.

The US and its Gulf allies have used up to 1,000 missiles to defend themselves against Iranian attacks. Patriot missiles are both expensive and difficult to manufacture, and demand is greater than supply.

About a dozen European and American officials say they are concerned that this could weaken Ukraine and give Russia a military advantage.

– The US is distracted and is using up the weapons that Europe wants to buy for Ukraine. It is a very bleak scenario, says an EU official.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj warned on Wednesday of the shortage of missiles. He clarified that the deficit is not due to the Iran war but admits that a prolonged conflict reduces the chances of getting more.

Unusual German decision: Sending missiles from its own warehouse

Germany is sending missiles from its own warehouse to Ukraine after concerns about a shortage of weapons, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj said, according to the Kyiv Independent.

The missiles will be used for the American Patriot air defense system, which is crucial for Ukrainian defense.

According to Der Spiegel, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has reached an agreement with European allies to deliver 35 PAC-3 missiles to Ukraine from Berlin's weapons warehouse. An agreement that the German newspaper describes as "unusual".

Recently, Zelenskyj has expressed concern that missiles and other weapons are being used in the US and Israel's war against Iran.
