Russian invasion Negotiations

No new dates for Ukraine talks – war in Iran puts a stop to it

There are no final dates for the next round of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, sources tell the Kyiv Independent.

The next round of talks was to be held in Abu Dhabi in March, but has been postponed because the key party, the United States, is fighting a war, and because Abu Dhabi is under Iranian shelling.

On Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with the American negotiating team, but admitted that the war is making it difficult to hold talks.

– Ukraine is ready to meet at any time as long as it is a format that is helpful and realistic in terms of ending the war, he said.

Peace talks between Russia and Ukraine — it comes down to business

  • The United States, Ukraine and Russia have negotiated a 20-point peace plan in rounds that includes security guarantees and EU membership for Ukraine, among other things.
  • The issue of control over Donbas and other occupied territories has been the main stumbling block in the talks, with Russia demanding full control and Ukraine refusing to give up territory.
  • The United States has pressured Ukraine to accept territorial concessions, drawing criticism from both European leaders and experts who say the plan favors Russia.
  • Several meetings have been held between the United States, Ukraine and Russia, including in Geneva and Abu Dhabi, but fighting has continued during the negotiations.Fl
  • Despite reports of some progress in the talks, the parties have yet to reach a final agreement, and Ukraine is demanding clear security guarantees and a date for EU membership.
