Reports of Russian ship hit in Baltic Sea
A Russian warship is lying on its side in the Russian city of Vyborg after a major Ukrainian drone attack on the Baltic Sea port of Ust-Luga and Vyborg, Danish TV2 reports.
According to the TV channel, Ukrainian military bloggers have shared a photo of the ship believed to be the Purga – a patrol ship commissioned by the Russian security service FSB to carry out coastal patrols.
The Ukrainian General Staff states that they carried out an attack with a "large number of drones" on Wednesday morning against the region around St. Petersburg.
During the morning, drones were reported to have entered Estonian and Latvian territory.
Paasikivi: Ukrainian drones that may have gone astray
The two drones that crashed in Latvia and Estonia during the night may be Ukrainian drones that went astray. This is what military expert Joakim Paasikivi tells TV4 Nyheterna. The drones are said to have come from Russian territory, but there is much evidence that it could be a navigation error.
- It is entirely possible that Ukrainian drones have accidentally gone astray in connection with Ukrainian attacks on the Russian shadow fleet in the Gulf of Finland in recent days, Paasikivi tells the TV channel.
Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina writes on her X account that the drone that fell on Latvian territory was Ukrainian.
Ukraine carried out several attacks on Russia during the night, including against the Russian port of Ust-Luga on the Gulf of Finland.
Estonian Security Police: Expect More Incidents
The downing of a drone at a power plant in Estonia is directly linked to the war in Ukraine, says Margo Palloson, head of the Estonian Security Police.
- You can expect more such incidents, he says, according to public service broadcaster ERR.
During the night, Ukraine targeted the port of Ust-Luga, which is only a few kilometers from the power plant in southeastern Estonia.
The Estonian government is meeting in the morning for an extraordinary meeting regarding the drone.
At an early stage, the AFP news agency reported that the drone was Russian, but it is unclear who fired it.
