ICE chief to step down
TT
The head of the US immigration police ICE, Todd Lyons, will step down at the end of May, US authorities announced.
Lyons submitted his resignation to the new Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin on Thursday.
Lyons, who was appointed deputy head of ICE by Donald Trump in March 2025, has been an important ally of the president in his hardline immigration policies. According to US media, Lyons has been responsible for around half a million deportations carried out by ICE since last year.
Lyons has been heavily criticized for the methods used by ICE.
It is unclear who will take over after Lyons.
