Middle East Crisis Strait of Hormuz

Iran opens Strait of Hormuz – stock market rises sharply

Iran is opening the Strait of Hormuz as part of the ceasefire agreement, writes the country's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on X.

He writes that it will apply for the duration of the ceasefire, which expires next week.

The announcement has caused the stock market to rise sharply, while the price of oil has fallen by about eight percent, reports TT.

In addition to Iran's blockade, the US has also imposed its own blockade of the strait to push for an agreement with Iran.

The US president has also reacted to the announcement:

"THANK YOU!", he writes on Truth Social.

Trump: US blockade of Iranian ships remains

The US blockade of Iranian ships in the Strait of Hormuz remains, writes Donald Trump on Truth Social.

“The blockade will remain in place, only with respect to Iran, until our transaction is 100 percent complete. This process should proceed very quickly as almost all points are fully negotiated,” the president wrote.

The announcement comes shortly after Iran announced that it would allow free passage for commercial vessels through the strait during the current ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.

Trump to NATO countries: Stay away from the Strait

Great Britain and France will lead an international, defensive military mission to secure shipping in the Strait of Hormuz “as soon as circumstances allow,” British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced according to Sky News.

Dozens of countries will cooperate to clear mines and keep the strait open, according to Starmer. Norway is one of the countries participating, announced Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

At the same time, Donald Trump writes on Truth Social that, after Iran announced that the Strait of Hormuz had been opened, he received a phone call “from NATO” asking if the United States needed help.

“I told them to stay away, unless they just want to fill their ships with oil. They were useless when they were needed, a paper tiger!” he writes.

Iran, with the help of the United States, has already cleared all mines in the strait, he claims in another post.
