Middle East crisis Iran war

Trump reportedly gives Iran three to five days to rally

Iran will be given three to five days to rally behind a common counteroffer, then the ceasefire will be over. Sources close to President Donald Trump told Axios.

“It will not be in effect until further notice,” the source said.

The American negotiators continue to believe that it is possible to achieve an agreement that ends the war and deals with the issue of Iran's nuclear program. But there is also concern that there is no longer anyone in Tehran with the mandate to decide whether to say yes to the agreement.

The United States has reportedly begun to notice that there were internal cracks in the Iranian stance during the first round of peace talks in Pakistan, where Revolutionary Guard commander Ahmad Vahidi opposed much of what Iran's negotiators themselves presented.

Ballistic Missile Parade in Tehran: “Crush Tel Aviv”

The Iranian regime paraded ballistic missiles in Tehran on Tuesday night to show unity and fighting spirit. Al Jazeera reports.

“Crush Tel Aviv!” shouted the crowd at Vanak Square, while “death to America” was heard from loudspeakers set up around the square, just as Donald Trump’s ceasefire deadline expired.

State-controlled media reported on the parades on Wednesday, interviewing armed men and women who say they are ready to “fight in the streets” and call for battle rather than negotiations with the United States.

One of the few who questions the regime's hard line is the influential prayer leader Abdolhamid Ismaeelzahi, who says that "a fair agreement" is the only way out of the impasse:

- The hard-line leaders who stubbornly stand in the way - what should they say to God and our oppressed people about the devastation of our homeland?

Expert: Only Iran benefits from a protracted conflict

The US is "much more stressed" about ending the war than Iran is. This is what Middle East expert Fredrik Meiton told TT after Donald Trump's announcement that the ceasefire would be extended.

According to Meiton, Iran benefits from a protracted conflict because the country has greater resilience to economic hardship. Trump's claim that he has "all the time in the world" is not true.

- I think he is in a big hurry. He will have time to get this conflict over and people will have time to at least partially forget about it in time for the mid-term elections this autumn, he says.

Middle East expert Alexander Atarodi tells TV4 that the trust between the parties will determine whether the talks continue or not. He slams US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and calls them incompetent.

– This is not a business deal. This has consequences for the entire world, for the world economy, he tells TV4 Nyheterna.

It is unclear if and if so when the peace talks between the US and Iran will resume.
