Israel and Hezbollah fired at each other during talks
While Israeli and Lebanese representatives agreed to extend the ceasefire between the countries by three weeks, Israel and Hezbollah continued to fire at each other, several media outlets report.
An Israeli airstrike killed three people in southern Lebanon during the day.
Later, Hezbollah stated that it had fired several projectiles at northern Israel, in response to what it called Israeli violations of the ceasefire.
Israel's military IDF said it had responded with airstrikes on several rocket launchers in southern Lebanon.
Yesterday, a prominent Lebanese journalist and four other people were killed in an Israeli airstrike. Lebanon subsequently accused Israel of war crimes.
Trump: Ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon extended
The ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon is being extended by three weeks, Donald Trump writes in a post on Truth Social.
The extension comes after the second round of talks between representatives of Israel and Lebanon in Washington, which Trump himself attended.
During the first round, the parties agreed to a ten-day ceasefire, which was to end on Monday.
“The United States will work with Lebanon to help it protect itself from Hezbollah,” Trump writes.
Also present at the meeting were Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee and US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa.
Trump further writes that he “looks forward” to inviting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to the White House.
