The US envoy is expected to travel to Pakistan on Saturday in new attempts to resume peace talks with Iran. According to the Iranian Defense Ministry, the Americans are trying to "save face" by finding a way out of the war.

"Our armed forces are a dominant force and the enemy is looking for a way to save face and escape the hardships that the war has put them in," a spokesman said in a statement quoted by the pro-regime news agency Isna.

The statement comes ahead of Pakistan's expected reception of Donald Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff and the president's son-in-law Jared Kushner on Saturday for talks on the war. According to White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt, they will meet with the Iranian delegation.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Islamabad late on Friday and has met with his Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar and Army Chief Asim Munir, among others. However, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei has stated that no direct talks with the Americans are planned. Instead, the country's position will be conveyed to Pakistan, it said.
