Source: Araghchi to Pakistan for New Talks with US
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is on his way to Pakistan for new talks with the US, reports Sky News. A source says the minister will land in the capital Islamabad today and that a second round of talks is on the agenda after meetings with Pakistani mediators.
Talks between the warring parties that were supposed to take place at the beginning of the week fell through.
Since the ceasefire between the US and Iran came into effect, both countries have focused on the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. Iran has closed the strait and the US has launched its own blockade of Iranian ports.
President Donald Trump has repeatedly tried to put pressure on the Iranian regime to bring about peace talks.
Trump Lets Peace Talks Take Their Time: “Don’t Stress Me Out”
Donald Trump is suggesting that the United States is willing to let peace talks with Iran take as long as they need, according to Reuters. Earlier this week, the president announced that the ceasefire that was initially intended to last two weeks would be extended.
On Thursday evening, Trump lashed out at a reporter who asked how long the president was prepared to wait for a deal with Iran.
“Don’t stress me out. I want to get the best deal. I want it to last forever,” he replied.
