King Vajiralongkorn seemed to be in pain as he stood up at the end of his coronation ceremony
If you have reports from Bangkok or elsewhere in the country about the size of the crowd or the number of people in yellow, please DM me! 5/5
Sources in the provinces say very few people are even bothering to wear a yellow shirt today. It’s clear evidence that support for the monarchy is waning and Vajiralongkorn is an unpopular king. Thai media reports of large joyous crowds are pure fantasy. 4/5
But the number of ordinary Thais is remarkably low compared to previous royal events during the reign of King Bhumibol. Nobody is walking across Pinklao Bridge to reach Rattanakosin Island and there are no queues at the security checkpoints. 3/5
The junta has ordered 26,000 stare employees to stand at designated areas to make the crowd look bigger, and there are also thousands of members of the king’s “Jit Arsa” royal volunteer movement. 2/5
Getting multiple reports that crowds are VERY thin today in the royal quarter of Bangkok for King Vajiralongkorn’s coronation. 1/5
