Russia and Ukraine negotiated for four hours.
During the conversation, Ukraine handed over a list of ten points.
One of them is a presidential meeting - something that now looks like it could become a reality.
It is the news site Meduza that took part in the "peace list" Ukraine brought with it to today's meeting in Istanbul.
The countries have not yet agreed on the points, but Moscow has said it will look at and discuss the proposals.
- An answer will then come, said Russia's chief negotiator Vladimir Medinsky after the talks.
Want to hold a referendum
The main point is that Ukraine should declare itself "permanently neutral" and not join any military alliances, in exchange for security guarantees from other countries.
These can be, for example, Russia, the United Kingdom, China, the United States and France.
Ukraine should also not have any foreign military on its territory.
According to another point, Ukraine will hold a referendum on the proposals before they enter into force.
In addition, Ukraine wants the issue of the annexed Crimean peninsula to be discussed over the next 15 years. Russia and Ukraine will also promise not to resolve these issues by military means, but to pursue diplomatic solutions.

Russian negotiator: Does not imply a ceasefire
During today's talks, the countries are said to have made such great progress that a meeting between Putin and Zelensky is possible.
Russia has also stated that it will radically reduce its military activity in Kyiv.
In the afternoon, two US CNN officials said that Russian troops had begun to withdraw from the outskirts of Kiev.
Vladimir Medinsky later stated that reducing Russian attacks on Kyiv and Chernihiv did not mean a ceasefire.
Ukraine has been clear that a total ceasefire is a prerequisite for the proposals.
