Death of Elizabeth II

10,000 police and 1,500 soldiers will protect kings, presidents and visitors at the Queen's funeral.

An iron ring is now being built around Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey.

- It is the largest police operation we have ever handled, says Stuart Cundy of London's Metropolitan Police.

On Monday, London will be filled with heads of state, royalty and prominent guests from all over the world. Leaders from Africa, the Middle East, Europe, the United States and Asia will gather on an area smaller than the Globe when they take their seats in Westminster Abbey.

This means that Queen Elizabeth's funeral requires one of the largest security measures ever in London's history.

Around one million people are expected to travel to London to see the funeral in place. 36 kilometers of picket fences are being placed in the central parts of the city.

- This will be the biggest police operation that the Metropolitan Police has ever taken care of and which we will probably never experience again, says Stuart Cundy to the AP news agency.

The security burden is huge. On the roofs along the procession route, there will be snipers on the roofs and metal arches are placed in places where people can get close to the guests.

Police officers from all over the country have been called in to protect the visitors. Divers, dog handlers, mounted police and motorcycle police will be on site. Helicopters will keep an eye on the crowds from the sky and extra surveillance cameras with facial recognition have been installed at critical locations.

President Joe Biden, French Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron and Israeli President Isaac Herzog Israel are three of the most high-profile foreign guests coming to London.

Among the guests are also the Emperor of Japan, the Emir of Qatar, royal couples from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Spain, the Netherlands, Monaco and Bhutan and Tonga and others.

Puts an iron ring around the church and castle

The police will form an iron ring around the area of Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace already on Sunday. Then all royal guests and heads of state and leaders are invited to a reception at the castle hosted by King Charles. On Monday morning, everyone gathers in Westminster Abbey.

The British intelligence service MI5 has been working actively behind the scenes since the Queen's death notice was sent out. They want to catch the slightest sign that someone is planning a terrorist act.

1,500 military personnel will be on site and the police have also hired hundreds of private security companies that will manage the queues to the various audience places.

The police urge everyone who will be in London to keep their eyes and ears open. If you see something suspicious, you should immediately report it to the police.

Joe Biden is the only president who is allowed to ignore the buses that other guests have to use as transport between castles, hotels and Westminster Abbey.

The president gets to bring his armored eight-tonne car, which goes by the name "The Beast". It can withstand both grenades and machine guns. Even if the tires are punctured, the car can continue forward for several kilometers.
