British Prime Minister Liz Truss fires Finance Minister Kwasi Kwarteng.
According to the British media, he may leave his post after the criticized budget proposal.
- I am incredibly sad to lose him, says Truss at a press conference.
British Prime Minister Liz Truss fires Finance Minister Kwasi Kwarteng.
She confirms this at a press conference on Downing Street on Friday afternoon. Truss says she is "very sorry to lose him".
“You have asked me to step aside as your finance minister. I have accepted," writes Khwarteng on Twitter.
The announcement comes after the finance minister's supplementary budget proposal, which attracted enormous criticism(enorm kritik).

Earlier in the day, the finance minister had to interrupt his visit to the USA to return home to the UK for a meeting with Truss, writes Sky News.
With Kwarteng losing his job, he is the minister who has been in office for the second shortest time ever.
Iain Macleod died of a heart attack 30 days after taking office in 1970. He is the shortest-serving person in the post, according to the BBC.
He takes over the post
At the press conference, the Prime Minister confirmed that Jeremy Hunt will take over as the new Chancellor of the Exchequer. The BBC reports that he will become the fourth Chancellor of the Exchequer in 2022.
- Today I have asked Jeremy Hunt to become the new finance minister. "He is one of the most experienced and widely respected ministers and parliamentarians," Truss said.
Furthermore, she says that Jeremy Hunt shares her "desire for an economy with high growth and low taxes".
Reversing the tax issue
On Friday, British media reported that the Prime Minister was expected to do a U-turn on the budget proposal.
At the press conference, Truss announces that she is withdrawing the proposal for reduced property tax.
There has been quite a storm around the British economy since Truss presented his budget, which forced the central bank to act forcefully to save the pound, writes TT. The proposal contained the biggest tax cuts in the country in 50 years, writes NRK.
