Migrant group sues Joe Biden for asylum obstruction
An asylum rights organization is suing Joe Biden's administration for severely limiting the ability to seek asylum for migrants who cross the border illegally, CNN reports.
According to the American Civil Liberties Union, the newly introduced rules violate several existing laws.
- The law is simply illegal, period, says ACLU attorney Lee Gelernt.
The organization believes that there is no difference between Biden's asylum rules and those that ex-president Donald Trump had stopped in court in 2018.

The Fed vs Inflation
Interest rates unchanged in the US – the Fed predicts a cut this year
As expected, the Federal Reserve leaves interest rates unchanged in the 5.25-5.50 percent range.
The members' "dot plot" indicates only one cut this year, which is a more hawkish forecast than the two cuts the market priced in.
"In recent months, we have seen cautious progress towards the committee's 2 percent inflation target," the Fed wrote in the statement, but added that inflation still remained at too high a level.
The Fed's forecast for US GDP growth is unchanged at 2.1 percent for 2024.

Political situation in Argentina
Water cannons against protest ahead of vote on legislative package
Riot police use water cannons, rubber bullets and pepper spray against protesters in the Congress Square in Buenos Aires on Wednesday evening, several media reports. Over 40 protesters and members of Congress have been forced to seek medical care, AFP and Argentine news site Corta report.
Thousands of people have gathered in the square to demand that the upper house of Congress demolish President Javier Milei's giant law package. Inside the Senate, the marathon debate continues on the package, which has been whittled down from over 600 to 238 pieces of legislation after receiving homework in Congress.
Among the laws are special powers for the president, who would not have to go through Congress to make laws in a number of areas, as well as a number of economic reforms in a libertarian direction.

WHO: 8,000 children under five in Gaza acutely malnourished
A significant proportion of Gaza's population suffers from "catastrophic hunger and famine-like conditions". This is stated by WHO Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, reports Reuters. 32 people have died of malnutrition, 28 of them children under the age of five.
- Despite reports of increased aid shipments, there is no evidence that those most in need are getting enough and good enough food, he says.
More than 8,000 children under the age of five have been diagnosed with acute malnutrition and received treatment, but the lack of safe places, clean water and sanitation increases the risk of more becoming severely malnourished.
According to Ghebreyesus, there is also a growing health crisis in the Palestinian West Bank, where health facilities have been the targets of over 500 Israeli attacks since Hamas' terrorist act against Israel on October 7 last year.
