Joe Biden is not running for re-election - but that is not enough, according to the Republicans.
The party demands that the president resign now.
- He must immediately resign from office, says Speaker Mike Johnson.
Just minutes after Joe Biden announced his decision not to run for re-election, Donald Trump went on the attack:
“The scoundrel Joe Biden was not fit to run for the presidency and he certainly is not fit to serve. He never was!”, he writes on Truth social.
According to the New York Times, a Republican mobilization to get Joe Biden to resign is already underway.
First to call for him to leave office is Republican Mike Johnson, Speaker of the US House of Representatives:
"The party's prospects are no better now with Vice President Kamala Harris, complicit in the disastrous policy failures of the Biden administration. As second-in-command and an utterly inept border czar, Harris has been a happy accomplice — not only in the destruction of American sovereignty, security and prosperity, but also in the greatest political cover-up in U.S. history. She has known as long as anyone about his inability to serve," Johnson said in a statement, continuing:
"If Joe Biden is not fit to run for president, he is not fit to serve as president. He must resign immediately. November 5th cannot come soon enough."
