Europe looks to Sweden to solve the troop shortage
Several European countries, including Germany and the Netherlands, are looking at Sweden's conscription model to increase recruitment for their respective armies. That's what Politico writes.
- I heard a lot about the Swedish approach and I appreciate it, said Germany's Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius when he visited the Duty and Probation Office in Stockholm a few weeks ago.
The number of conscripts in Sweden has doubled since 2017: from 4,000 to 8,000, when mandatory conscription was reinstated after a seven-year hiatus, according to Politico.
Even CNN pays attention to Sweden's defense. There, Sweden is lifted together with Norway as examples in terms of the number of reservists, albeit behind Finland, which has the opportunity to call up 900,000 of them.
In line with the increased Russian threat, many European countries have reviewed their defense capabilities. Several of them have reinstated or expanded mandatory military service since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, writes CNN.

Andriivka, a village with fewer than 20 inhabitants, is seen as symbolically important in the war.
