Sources: Secret service denied increased security for Trump
The Secret Service is said to have repeatedly in recent years denied requests from Donald Trump's staff for increased security resources at events. This is stated by four sources for the Washington Post.
Among other things, the ex-president's security team is said to have asked for more snipers to be placed on rooftops.
The Secret Service initially denied that it denied requests for additional security, but has now reversed itself and admitted that some requests may have been denied, the newspaper writes.

Trump's doctor in statement: "Miracle he didn't die"
Donald Trump's bullet wound in the outer ear was two centimeters wide down to the cartilage of the outer ear, and the bullet was just over half a centimeter from penetrating his head. This is stated by former White House doctor and politician Ronny Jackson in the most detailed statement to date regarding the ex-president's gunshot wound after the assassination attempt on him.
No stitches should have been needed, but a bandage to stop the bleeding that occurred.
"There was initially significant bleeding, followed by marked swelling of the entire upper ear," writes the doctor in the statement.
He also writes that it was "a miracle that he did not die."
"In summary, former President Trump is doing well, and is recovering as expected from the gunshot wound he sustained Saturday afternoon," he said.

The minister roars after criticism of female agents
The female Secret Service agents who protected Donald Trump on stage during the assassination attempt "were brave and selfless patriots who deserve our gratitude and respect." That's what US Homeland Security Minister Alejandro Mayorkas writes in a statement, reports AFP.
The statement comes after the Secret Service has been criticized for employing women as agents, including from right-wing activist Matt Walsh, who is followed by millions. In a post on X, he wrote that the Secret Service "should be the very best, and none of the best at that job are women".
Allegations that Walsh calls Mayorka's "baseless and insulting."

Democrats split over who could replace Biden
In recent days, the question of whether Joe Biden should drop out of the presidential race has become increasingly central. At the same time, the question of who will replace him is raised - something that divides the Democrats, reports Sky News.
More and more within the party see Biden's Vice President Kamala Harris as a possible replacement.
If she is chosen as the Democratic presidential candidate, she would become the party's first black and South Asian woman to be nominated as a presidential candidate.
But not everyone in the party supports such a decision.
"If you think there is a consensus among people who want Biden to leave [...] that they will support Kamala, Vice President Harris, you would be wrong," wrote New York representative and Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Instagram on Friday, according to Sky News.

Protests outside the White House: "Pass the torch"
On Saturday, Democratic voters gathered outside the White House to call on Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential campaign, NBC reports.
The demonstrators held placards with the text "Pass the torch" and chanted "Thank you Joe, time to go".
According to sources for the American news channel, top Democrats are divided over Biden's candidacy. The Clintons stand firmly by Biden's side, while Barack Obama has expressed "concern" about the president's chances of winning the election, the sources said.
At the same time, new opinion polls show that two-thirds of Democratic voters would like Biden to drop out, writes Ekot.

Demonstranterna höll i plakat med texten ”Lämna över facklan” och skanderade ”Thank you Joe, time to go” (”Tack Joe, dags att lämna”).
