Ukrainian F-16 pilot killed during combat mission

26-year-old Ukrainian fighter pilot Pavlo Ivanov died during a combat mission on Saturday, the Ukrainian military said in a statement.

Ivanov died while flying an F-16 aircraft, it said.

“Ukrainian pilots work at the maximum level of human and technical capabilities, risking their lives every time they perform combat missions. Pavlo was one of them,” the Ukrainian military wrote.

The Ukrainian military did not say when, where or how Ivanov died, and wrote that the causes of his death will be investigated.

– Now the Russian fighter jets are flying more passively when they notice that we are in the air, says “Rocket”.

“Rocket” says that the main task of his squadron of F-16 planes is to protect Ukrainian forces on the ground. An important part of that is shooting down incoming drones and missiles.

– We fly all the way to the front line to protect the ground forces. At night we carry out defensive operations. In daylight we fly more offensively, the pilot tells VG.
