Anthropic broadens AI tools – automates HR and banking
Anthropic broadens the scope of its chatbot Claude. The AI company will now launch tools that can automate work in areas such as personnel management, investment banking and design. This is reported by several media outlets in connection with the company's event on Tuesday.
Organizations will now be able to connect Claude Cowork to existing tools such as Google Drive, Gmail, Docusign and Factset. They can also implement customizable extensions that integrate internal knowledge and workflows, Anthropic says.
Factset is also mentioned as a partner company in the financial part of the tools. The stock ended the day 5.9 percent higher. Docusign and Salesforce also rose after being mentioned as partners by Anthropic.
Hegseth threatens to cut Anthropic off the Pentagon
US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has threatened to cut Anthropic off from the Pentagon's supply chains if the company does not agree to allow its technology to be used in all legal military applications. This is reported by Axios, several international media outlets write.
The threat is the latest escalation in a conflict between the AI company and the Department of Defense, which was triggered by Anthropic's refusal to provide unrestricted access to its models for classified military use. This included domestic surveillance and autonomous weapons systems with lethal effect.
Hegseth summoned the AI company's CEO Dario Amodei to Washington for a meeting earlier in the day. During the talks, Hegseth also threatened to invoke the Defense Production Act, which gives the president the ability to take control of domestic industry in the national defense interest, a source with insight said.
Anthropic has until Friday to agree to Hegseth's proposal.
Source: Will not ease restrictions for Pentagon
Anthropic has no intention of easing its user restrictions for military purposes. In other words, the AI company does not give its approval for its products to be used for domestic surveillance in the United States or autonomous weapons systems with lethal effect. This is stated by a source for Reuters.
The information comes after Anthropic's CEO and US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth held a meeting on Tuesday, where Hegseth threatened to exclude the AI company from the Pentagon's supply chains if it does not agree to approve the technology being used in "all lawful military applications."
