Iran-US Tensions

Trump: Iran Developing Missiles That Can Reach the US

Iran is working to develop nuclear weapons and missiles that can reach the US. Donald Trump claimed this, without presenting any evidence, during his speech to Congress on Wednesday.

In recent weeks, the US has moved extensive military resources to Iran's vicinity and is reportedly considering a large-scale attack.

During his speech, Trump said that he would rather see a negotiated solution.

- But we have not heard the magic words: 'We will never have a nuclear weapon.'

Iran has certainly said that repeatedly.

"Iran will under no circumstances develop a nuclear weapon," the country's Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi wrote on X just hours before Trump's speech.

According to the New York Times, despite the statements, there is extensive evidence that Iran has previously tested parts that could be used to build a nuclear weapon.

The neg otiations between Iran and the US — the point is this.

  • The US and Iran began indirect talks on Iran's nuclear program in Oman and Geneva in February.
  • The US has moved the aircraft carriers USS Abraham Lincoln and USS Gerald R Ford to the area, as well as over 150 aircraft to bases in the Middle East and Europe.
  • Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened military action if no agreement is reached.
  • Iran has demanded that sanctions be lifted and emphasized its right to enrich uranium, but says it has no plans to develop nuclear weapons.
