Epstein affair British connections

Former Prince Andrew's house search has been completed

The police have completed the search of Prince Andrew's former home Royal Lodge in Berkshire in the UK. The British police announced this according to The Independent.

However, no new details from the investigation are expected. It is "unlikely for some time to come" that the police will have anything new to say.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been stripped of his princely title after new revelations about his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The former prince was arrested last week and is suspected of leaking state secrets to Epstein.

London police believed that Mandelson would flee the country

The UK's former ambassador to the US Peter Mandelson was arrested, among other things, because there was a concern that he would flee the country. His lawyers said this in a statement according to British media.

Law firm Mishcon de Reya denies that Mandelson had any escape plans and sharply criticizes the police's actions. According to the firm, Mandelson, who is being investigated for misconduct due to his relationship with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, voluntarily agreed to be questioned in March.

"We have asked the police to share the evidence that was the basis for the arrest," the lawyers write.

They also state that Mandelson wants to cooperate with the police to "clear his name."

House of Commons votes to release Andrew documents

The House of Commons in the British Parliament agreed on Tuesday to publish files and documents linked to the former Prince Andrew's time as trade envoy, British media reports.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was an envoy for just over a decade in the 2000s. Now he is suspected of having shared secret information with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein during that period.

As the former prince is under investigation, it is unclear when the documents can be made public. The British government's position is that the investigation into Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor must be allowed to run its course.

The impact of the Epstein files on Britain — the case

  • Andrew was released after almost twelve hours in custody, but the investigation into suspected leaks of sensitive security information continues.
  • Peter Mandelson, a former US ambassador and Labour politician, was arrested in London on 23 February 2026, suspected of misconduct linked to contacts with Epstein.
  • Both Andrew and Mandelson have lost their public duties and titles following revelations of close ties to Epstein and suspicions of information leaks.
  • The events have triggered a political and institutional crisis in Britain, with calls for Prime Minister Keir Starmer's resignation and heavy pressure on the royal family.
