Middle East Crisis Reactions

Modi lands in Israel – meets Netanyahu

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has landed in Israel for a two-day visit, AFP reports. Modi was received at the airport in Tel Aviv by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

During the visit, Modi will meet with President Isaac Herzog and speak in the Knesset. According to Netanyahu's office, several agreements on economic and security cooperation are expected to be signed.

However, the visit is not without controversy: At home in India, Modi has received harsh criticism from the opposition, who believe that he is too condescending towards Israel, and urge him to address the situation in Gaza during his speech in parliament.

Israel accounted for two out of three journalists killed in 2025

Israeli forces killed 86 journalists last year, according to a new report from the Committee to Protect Journalists.

This means that Israel is the country that has killed the most journalists for the second year in a row, accounting for just over two-thirds of the total of 129 deaths. A majority of the victims were Palestinians reporting from inside Gaza.

“The failure of governments around the world to hold them accountable for the attacks is setting the stage for more killings,” CPJ program director Carlos Martínez de la Serna told Haaretz.
