Sources: US to ease steel tariffs against EU
EU officials believe the US will soon ease its extensive tariffs on products containing steel and aluminium. According to sources to Bloomberg, one move is considered to be that the Trump administration will reduce the number of goods covered by the 50 percent tariff rate.
The EU has long demanded relief for the broad metal tariffs, which according to EU officials contradict the trade agreement concluded last year and which set a ceiling of 15 percent tariff for most European products.
EU trade chief wants to see US agreement completed in March
EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic wants EU lawmakers to approve the trade agreement with the US in March. However, this requires some clarity about Donald Trump's tariff plans, writes Bloomberg.
“A plenary vote in March must remain our goal,” he told the European Parliament’s trade committee on Tuesday.
EU lawmakers on Monday paused work on ratifying the agreement after the US Supreme Court rejected Trump’s use of an emergency powers law to impose so-called reciprocal tariffs globally.
