Political situation in Bolivia

“We have told him to pack his bags and leave”

Thousands of indigenous women from Bolivia’s capital La Paz marched through the capital La Paz on Mother’s Day in support of the country’s striking transport workers, writes AFP.

The protests have led to shortages of food, fuel and essential commodities, and President Rodrigo Paz warns that the country is at a “breaking point”. However, the protesters have no plans to stop.

“We are not afraid of dying. We have already told him to pack his bags and leave,” says Marta Poma Luque.

President’s warning: We are approaching a breaking point

Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz has sharply criticized the protesters in the capital La Paz who are demanding his resignation, writes AFP.

“This country needs order and is approaching a breaking point,” he said, according to the news agency.

The capital has been besieged by low-income earners and members of the country’s indigenous population. In addition to wage increases and secure fuel supplies, they are demanding the withdrawal of a criticized agricultural reform.
