Trump's USA

Midterm elections in the USA
Judge gives Trump the green light – postal votes can be limited

A federal judge has decided not to stop a presidential order from Donald Trump to establish a national voter register and limit postal voting, American media reports. This opens the way for major changes to the American electoral system with only months left until the midterm elections.

Democrats had appealed the order on the grounds that election rules should be designed by the states, not the president. But the judge, appointed by Trump, rejected the appeal.

Since his election loss in 2020, Trump has claimed that postal votes, which often favor Democrats, constitute election fraud, without presenting any evidence.

Professor: Paxton's victory is bad news for Trump

The fact that Trump-backed Republican Ken Paxton won the Texas primary earlier this week could spell bad news for the president in this fall's midterm elections. Ryan D Enos, a professor of political science at Harvard University, tells Berlingske.

Paxton's victory was impressive, but it is self-destructive for both Trump and the Republicans, says Enos.

Paxton beat the more traditional Republican John Cornyn, who has been a Texas senator for 23 years. According to Enos, this shows that Trump's power over the Republicans is unlimited - that the candidate the president supports also gets the voters' votes.

But that is also Trump's big problem, because he is in fact an unpopular president, says Enos. This risks spilling over to Republican candidates, both in the midterm elections and in the 2028 presidential election.

- Since there is no room for dissent, all Republicans will be seen as an extension of the Trump administration, Enos tells the newspaper.

Iran War
Trump snubbed Iran War casualties during hospital visit

When Donald Trump recently visited Walter Reed Military Hospital for his annual health check-up, he took the opportunity to greet American soldiers being treated there. But none of the 14 soldiers injured in the war in Iran, which Trump started, received a visit, CBS News reports, citing two sources.

Although Trump has repeatedly praised injured and killed soldiers, he has also received criticism. Among other things, he claimed in 2020 that soldiers who suffered brain damage in an Iranian attack on a US military base suffered "headaches" that were not serious.

13 American soldiers have been killed and over 400 have been injured during the war in Iran.

Political situation in Cuba
Sources: US preparing for Cuban collapse this summer

The US Trump administration is preparing for the possibility that Cuba's regime could collapse as early as this summer. Sources tell Axios. The US is also said to have prepared a military intervention if the island nation is thrown into political chaos.

However, Donald Trump is said to have not yet given the go-ahead for any intervention, preferring a peaceful transition to a new regime. To get there, his administration will continue to put economic pressure on Havana.

- But we don't want to completely abolish the regime yet. There is a method behind this. It will happen gradually, says a source.

According to Axios, the approach is also about the US wanting to buy time to first end the war in Iran before focusing on Cuba.

The President's Team
Trump wants his face on new $250 bill

Officials in Donald Trump's administration are pushing for a department at the Treasury Department to design a $250 bill that will feature the president's portrait. Sources tell the Washington Post.

The pressure is said to have begun last year, ahead of what this year will be the 250th anniversary of the United States.

But those responsible are said to have been told that there are both legal and scheduling obstacles. A manager who opposed the plans says in an email to her colleagues that she has been reassigned.

If the plans were to become reality, it would be the first time since 1866 that one of the country's banknotes or coins would feature a person who is still alive.
