Israel states that it has concluded its military offensive in Hebron, in the occupied West Bank—an operation launched in response to the fatal shooting of two Israeli soldiers in October.

On Monday morning, Israeli soldiers withdrew from the area where the operation took place, according to a military spokesperson, who added that "counter-terrorism operations" are continuing across the West Bank.

AFP journalists report that residents are now returning to Hebron. During the operation, a residential area was reportedly cleared, forcing more than 3,000 people to leave their homes.

The residential area that was cleared was home to two Palestinians who, on October 23—just days before the Israeli election—shot and killed two Israeli soldiers near Hebron. The perpetrators were shot dead by the Israeli military, which shortly thereafter launched a major retaliatory offensive in Hebron.
