The Swedish Royal Family This year, King Carl XVI Gustaf will receive SEK 149 million.
For the first time ever, we learn how much money each member of the royal family receives.
The public inquiry will be presented in April.
Taxpayers will have more insight into how the royal family uses taxpayers' money. The grant for the state, which is also called the appanage, is reported in April. It reports Swedish Radio Ekot.
How much the members of the royal family receive today and what the money goes to has not been reported before. But in the annual report for 2021, which will be published in April, this will be reported for the first time. King Carl XVI Gustaf will receive 149 million for 2022, according to this year's budget bill. Half goes to the Palace State, which takes care of the eleven royal castles. The other half goes to the Court State, which finances the royal family's costs for representation.
That part is now reported more clearly. There are three framework amounts: one for the royal couple, one for the crown princess couple and one for Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia.
Reports different costs
The report will also give examples of what expenses the royal family has received compensation for.
Princess Madeleine and her husband Christopher O’Neill will not receive a fixed budget because they live abroad.
Other expenses, such as what the royal family receives compensation for, will be reported in the annual report.
- It is part of their housing costs for their private housing, which in this case is castles. There are certain transport costs, certain security costs, there are clothes for public representation, says Jan Lindman, superintendent of the Marshal's Office to Ekot.
No decision by the king
Jenny Alexandersson, court reporter at Aftonbladet, says that it is not something that the king himself has decided on.
It is a decision that the government took in 2019 when an investigation into the appanage was appointed.
- They also wanted to change the number of flag days and how the king hands out medals and arranges. Last year, the investigation was handed over and now the court is starting to apply the rules, says Jenny Alexandersson. The king must also report who in the family is allowed to take part of the money and how much.
- The court must also give examples of what kind of expenses are included in the amounts, says Jenny Alexandersson.
