290 rescued from blizzard in New York

Around 1.8 meters of snow has fallen in the western parts of New York state during Saturday.
 
In the area around the city of Buffalo, roads have been forced to close and flights have been canceled - just in time for Thanksgiving, one of the nation's busiest travel holidays. 
 
According to Governor Kathy Hochul, almost 90 car accidents have been reported and 290 people have been rescued from the roads, writes Reuters. 
 
The difficult weather conditions are expected to last until Monday morning. 
 
The governor has called in 150 soldiers from the National Guard to help with, among other things, snow removal.

Turkish air force has attacked the city of Kobane in northern Syria, according to AFP. 
 
The city is controlled by the Kurdish group YPG, which is the Syrian branch of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) Turkey has accused the PKK of being behind the attack in central Istanbul that killed six people. A Syrian woman is singled out as the main suspect. 
 
According to the Turkish interior minister, the woman had recently been in Kobane and had been ordered to carry out the deed there. 
 
On Saturday, a total of 17 people were arrested who are accused of being connected to the attack. Turkish President Erdogan has previously threatened an offensive against northern Syria.

The head of one of Ukraine's largest energy companies is encouraging people to travel out of the country if they can, to reduce pressure on the electricity grid. 
 
- If people can find alternative places to live for three to four months, it will help the system a lot, says Maksim Timchenko, director of the energy company Dtek, to the BBC. 
 
About half of Ukraine's electricity infrastructure has been destroyed as a result of Russia's attacks. 
 
Power outages have become common in the country, both planned and unplanned.

Rishi Sunak is currently in Kyiv meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. 
 
It is the first meeting of the leaders since Sunak was appointed Prime Minister of Great Britain. 
 
During the meeting, Sunak promised 50 million pounds to the Ukrainian defense, the BBC writes. 
 
- We have discussed the most important issues both for our countries and for global security, says Zelensky in a message on Telegram. 
 
- We are stronger together - and we will achieve the desired results, he continues.

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of a failed terrorist attack in Northern Ireland, TT reports. 
 
The men are accused of trying to blow up two police officers to death in Strabane near the border with Ireland. The three men were arrested under terrorism legislation. 
 
The group New IRA is suspected of being behind the deed. The incident occurs in a period when Northern Ireland lacks a stable government.
