The national assembly is expected to triple in the new French election

The far-right National Assembly is expected to grow threefold in the French parliament. This is according to the first opinion poll after President Emmanuel Macron announced new elections, reports Reuters.

According to the poll, Marine Le Pen's party, which currently has 88 seats, will get between 235 and 265 seats. Macron's center alliance is expected to be halved from 250 to between 125 and 155 seats, according to the poll.

If the distribution of votes stands, it means no majority of its own for the National Assembly. This could lead to the other parties forming a broad coalition – or to a parliamentary stalemate where the president loses control above all over domestic politics, according to Reuters.

An absolute majority requires at least 289 of the 577 mandates.

Macron's nightmare in picture – small dot in the Paris area

The French far-right party National Assembly was the largest in 93 percent of the constituencies in the EU election, reports France 24.

Le Monde has published a map showing the winning party in all municipalities and cities, clearly illustrating the party's dominance. The map graphic is a nightmare image for President Emmanuel Macron, whose liberal party Renaissance's yellow dots barely appear in the National Assembly's dominant brown color. Macron's party is only visible in spots, mainly around the Paris area.

Maps of the German election results have also been disseminated and published by Süddeutsche Zeitung, among others. There are clear differences between West and East. The right-wing nationalist AFD is largest in the eastern parts of the country, while the German Christian Democrats CDU is most popular in the west.

Russian mockery of Macron: "Towards the ash heap of history!"

Russian politicians rejoiced at the heavy defeats of French President Emmanuel Macron's and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's parties in the EU elections.

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev writes in X that the result reflects the leaders' "inept

policy" regarding support for Ukraine.

“Time to retire. Towards the ash heap of history!” writes Medvedev.

Although the centrist parties still dominate the EU Parliament, the rise of the far right is clear, says Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

- Although the pro-Europeans retain their leading positions for the time being, the right-wing parties are close on their heels, he says.

Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin writes on Telegram that Macron and Scholz are "clinging to power with their last remaining strength".

"The only right thing for them is to resign and stop making a mockery of their citizens," he writes, according to Politico.
