Continued French right-wing chaos: Le Pen relative sawed off, poked leader goes to work
The turmoil within the French right before the new elections on June 30 shows no signs of abating. Yesterday, the leader of the conservative Republicans, Éric Ciotti, sent office staff home and locked down party headquarters ahead of the party's imminent poking of him.
The petting happened anyway, but Ciotti still has no plans to leave his post, he said in an interview with France 2 on Thursday morning.
- I will go to work soon, said Ciotti, who believes that the dismissal took place in violation of the party's statutes.
Republicans ousted Ciotti because of his plans to enter into a partnership with Marine Le Pen's far-right National Assembly. The parties further out on the right have their own battles.
On Monday, Le Pen's niece Marion Maréchal, recently elected member of the European Parliament for the far-right Reconquête, announced that she wanted to enter into a collaboration with her aunt's party before the election.
- I am disgusted and hurt, said Reconquête leader Eric Zemmour on Wednesday evening.
