Russia: Our response will be painful for Brussels
Russia considers the seizure of the country's assets to be criminal and threatens consequences. This is what Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zacharova says after the G7 meeting, in consultation with the EU, decided to send 50 billion dollars to Ukraine. The money is a loan to be taken from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets.
- The seizure of Russian assets will lead to a response that will be very painful for Brussels, she says according to Reuters.
Zacharova also says that France is "increasing the risks of a direct confrontation" with Russia due to President Emmanuel Macron's decision to provide Ukraine with fighter jets.

Clear: G7 agree on billion loan to Ukraine
The countries of the G7 have agreed on the terms of the billion loan to Ukraine at the highest level. This is reported by several media with reference to US officials.
It is a loan of 50 billion dollars to be taken from frozen Russian assets until Moscow pays compensation for its invasion of Ukraine.
The payments will start this year, but it will take time for Ukraine to get rid of the money, AP writes.

Analysis: A wounded crowd gathers at a luxury hotel
Six lame ducks and Giorgia Meloni. This is how Politico describes the G7 meeting in Italy that began today. As war rages in Ukraine and Gaza, the "democratic world" would have benefited from strong leadership from the G7.
"Dream on," writes the site.
French leader Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak have election campaigns to run at home. Germany's Olaf Scholz has just lost big in the EU elections. Justin Trudeau and Fumio Kishida are grappling with their own problems.
And Joe Biden is trailing in the polls and recently saw his son convicted of gun crimes, Politico points out.
The New York Times chooses the same angle and describes the seven leaders who check into the luxury hotel on the Adriatic Sea as an "unfortunate crowd".
"It shows the political tremors that are shaking the entire Western world."
