Analysis: Hard to tell where magnetic Bardella stands
28-year-old Jordan Bardella is on everyone's lips before the new elections in France. As leader of the far-right National Gathering, he is expected to get the most votes, opinion polls show.
GP's Laura Ingemarsson has gone through Bardella's social media to try to understand his appeal. She is met by a "magnetic, easy-going, well-articulated" party leader in the clips on Tiktok.
"Essentially different from the party that Holocaust denier Jean-Marie Le Pen once founded in the 1970s. Far-right politics have never felt so easily chewed," writes Ingemarsson.
What the young, well-combed and eloquent Bardella wants politically is all the more difficult to understand, writes the BBC's Hugh Schofield. He moves between the "social" branch of the party that wants to place the greatest focus on the French working class and the "identity branch" that focuses on immigration and the preservation of French culture.
"He has a general position built around a tough response to crime and immigration [...] But at the level of detail, the answers are deliberately left vague," writes Schofield.

Bardella attacks Mbappé: "Embarrassing to hear"
French soccer star Kylian Mbappé's call not to vote for extremists is now being countered - by far-right National Collection leader Jordan Bardella.
Nationell Samling took a big victory in the EU elections and is leading in opinion polls ahead of the new parliamentary elections. At a press conference before the EC premiere, Mbappé said that France is at a historic crossroads and that "extremists are about to take power.
In an interview with the television channel C News, Bardella says that he has "great respect" for the players in the national football team, but adds:
- When you were lucky enough to earn very, very well, when you are a multi-millionaire. Then it becomes a bit embarrassing to hear these athletes preach to people who can't get their finances together and who no longer feel safe.

French center swings both ways: “Plague or cholera”
With less than two weeks to go before the new French election, President Emmanuel Macron's bloc is in third place in opinion polls, behind the far right and the new left alliance.
This has caused the tone of the governing center to harden, writes AFP. The leader of the center party Democratic Movement, Francois Bayrou, describes the choice between the left and the National Assembly as "plague or cholera".
At the same time, Prime Minister Gabriel Attal claims that both sides would lead France "straight into bankruptcy" if they emerged victorious from the election.
