Putin and Kim make pact - promise to protect each other
Russia and North Korea have concluded a defense pact which means that the countries must protect each other in the event of an attack. It emerged during the summit between Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-Un in Pyongyang on Wednesday.
Putin and Kim signed a "strategic partnership agreement" that includes, among other things, mutual defense guarantees. How the agreement is formulated in detail is not clear, but the countries describe it as "entirely defence-oriented".
Before the meeting began, Putin thanked North Korea for the country's support, including in the Ukraine war.

Putin and Kim promise new agreement: "Burning friendship"
North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un promised unwavering support for Russia's war in Ukraine in connection with Wednesday's meeting with President Vladimir Putin, AP reports.
- The fiery friendship between North Korea and Russia will become more impenetrable, Kim said according to Russian state media.
Putin thanked North Korea for its support and announced that the two countries will sign a new agreement to strengthen both the partnership and the united front against the United States.
According to the Russian news agency Tass, the countries commit to providing assistance if one of the parties is attacked. Russia also does not rule out military-technical cooperation with North Korea, according to Putin.
The summit was preceded by a grand ceremony in the capital, Pyongyang. Later on Wednesday, Putin will travel on to Vietnam.

Putin cordially received by Kim Jong-Un in North Korea
Vladimir Putin has arrived in North Korea for his two-day visit. In a clip released by the Kremlin, he is embraced by Kim Jong-Un as he gets off the plane.
It is the Russian president's second visit to North Korea. The first happened 24 years ago, when he had just taken up his post. Then he met Kim Jong-Un's father and representative Kim Jong-Il.
In an article published by state-run North Korean KCNA ahead of the visit, Putin promises to stand by his "comrade" Kim Jong-Un in the resistance to the US and the sanctions.
The Kremlin has signaled that the two leaders will sign a security agreement during the visit
